On 2nd October 1997, Gulf Union Bank (Bahamas) Limited "Gulf" Banking Licence was suspended by the Ministry of Finance. On 12th December 1997, Gulf was placed in provisional liquidation by the Supreme Court of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and later on 30th March 1998, Gulf was placed in official liquidation by the same court. Raymond L. Winder, a Certified Public Accountant and Partner in the firm of Deloitte & Touche Bahamas and Graham C. Garner, a Chartered Public Accountant and former Partner of the firm Coopers & Lynbrand were appointed Joint Provisional Liquidators on 12th December 1997 and confirmed as Joint Official Liquidators on 2nd July 1998.
